Fishing Gear
Fly Rods: Bring at least two fly rods: a 5-7 wt for streamer fishing and windy conditions, and a 4-5 wt for dry flies in the evening. We recommend a third 5 wt rod as a backup, as the lodge has limited rods in case of breakage.
Fly Reels: Use high-quality reels, ideally with disc drag and at least 80-100 yards of backing, as larger fish can put your gear to the test. Consider bringing a spare reel or additional spools, and have one rod set up with floating line and another with sinking line for versatility.
Lines: Floating and sinking lines are essential. Weight-forward or double-taper floating lines work well for dry flies and small streamers, while a fast-sink line (30 ft, 150-250 grams) is ideal for deep waters and lake edges. If you’re new to fast-sinking lines, practice casting before your trip for better results.
Leaders: Leaders in the 7 ½ – 9 ft range (2x-5x) work well for most fishing, and we recommend fluorocarbon tippets for durability and low reflectivity. Bring extra spools of tippet in 2x-6x.
Flies: We primarily use streamers and larger dry flies during the day. Check our recommended fly list, although we stock effective patterns at the lodge.
Waders and Wading Shoes: Breathable waders are ideal for layering in different weather. Sturdy wading shoes with felt or rubber soles are recommended. Ensure your gear is clean and dry before arrival to prevent the spread of invasive species. Rubber-soled shoes are especially recommended.
